THE SEND OFF: Exhibition Closing + Community Digitization Event
April 4, 2026 | Detroit Historical Museum
1:30pm - 4:30pm
Join us for a powerful closing celebration of From the Bottom Up! Together, we will honor, archive, and celebrate the stories that make Black Detroit’s history vibrant, living, and full of love. This event is an opportunity to gather in community, safeguard personal histories, and ensure these memories remain accessible for generations to come.
This special gathering will feature a panel of Black Bottom storytellers from our Sankofa Community Research Project. Through their voices, we’ll revisit the stories, lived experiences, and visions they hold for the future of the 30 acres of land that will be redeveloped as part of the I-375 project. Their reflections remind us that history lives not only in archives, but in the people who carry it forward.
From 2:30 to 4:30 PM, we invite community members to take part in a Community Digitization Event. Bring your family photos, documents, or cherished memorabilia, and our team will carefully digitize them so they can be preserved for generations to come.
