Being Bold, Black, and Radical in Preserving Our History
World Storytelling Day 2026 | Theme: Light in the Dark
Join us at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History for a special World Storytelling Day gathering centered on Black storytelling as preservation, resistance, and radical care. Inspired by this year’s global theme, “Light in the Dark,” this program explores how preserving our histories becomes a guiding light for present and future generations.
The event will feature:
A moderated panel conversation with storytellers, memory workers, and cultural organizers
A hands-on community digitization workshop teaching practical tools to preserve photographs, documents, and personal archives
An intergenerational creative activity featuring pages from From the Bottom, Up: Go Back and Color It
Participants are encouraged (but not required) to bring 3–5 personal items—such as photographs, letters, documents, or recordings—to learn how to better preserve and care for them. Original materials will not be collected.
Pre-registration is strongly preferred (https://bit.ly/bbabeboldberadical) to help us plan for space and materials. Walk-ins will be welcomed as capacity allows.
Come ready to reflect, learn, create, and carry the light forward.
