BOLD-resolute, fearless, acknowledged, daring, audacious,
BOLD is an art and sound exhibit that wanders through modes of expression to explore a radical understanding of Blackness and overall self-love. Taking in our present day reality of the United States being governed by a Black President, Barack Obama, which was once only dreamed of. Using this historical time to observe race relations assisted in sparking my curiosity into black visibility on a global diaspora; creating questions like: What is Blackness? What is acting black? How do I own my Blackness?
Veniece Session is a graduating senior from the University of Michigan School of Music with a Bachelor of Science in Sound Engineering from the Performing Arts Technology Department (PAT). During her time at UM her interests and execution have spanned across the worlds of music, fashion, and art; each equally contributing to her interdisciplinary skillset and modes of creative expression. Within the music sector Session uses her musical abilities to empower other black women through navigating a male-dominated field as a Live Sound Engineer. Through all of her endeavours Session believes her drive to succeed is powered by her belief in purposed work that leads to social impact and change and the need to spread love to the world . With this vision she aims to continue in being a vital part of the progressive arts culture and atmosphere that will add to the rich culture of her hometown Detroit and its city’s legacy.
